Park Road Post colour suites — DI grading lineage from LOTR through Avatar: The Way of Water

Here is how this works in practice. Our colorists work primarily out of Park Road Post Wellington — Peter Jackson's Miramar-campus finishing site that graded the Lord of the Rings trilogy, the Hobbit trilogy, King Kong 2005, Mortal Engines, The Power of the Dog, and Avatar: The Way of Water — alongside Department of Post, Images and Sound Auckland, and Toybox Auckland for overflow and commercial work.

Here is how this works in practice. Suites run Baselight, DaVinci Resolve Studio, and FilmLight Daylight infrastructure with calibrated reference projection (Dolby Cinema, Dolby Vision HDR, HDR10, PQ ST.2084, HLG broadcast) and ACES-managed pipelines from camera-first through DCP, IMF, and streaming master deliverables. We grade alongside DPs including Ari Wegner ACS (Power of the Dog, Best Cinematography Oscar nom), Aaron Morton, John Toon, and Stuart Dryburgh, calibrating LUTs on-set during principal and confirming creative intent in final-pass HDR review sessions. Productions invoice in NZD with GST 15 percent applied. The NZSPG 25 percent International Production Grant covers qualifying post spend at Park Road, Department of Post, and Images and Sound.

Here is the short of it. Heritage runs through Park Road Post's Oscar-winning finishing on the Lord of the Rings (Cinematography 2002 with Andrew Lesnie, Return of the King 2003 Best Picture sweep), James Cameron's Avatar: The Way of Water (Best Visual Effects Oscar 2023), and the recent Power of the Dog grade (12 Oscar nominations 2022). Wellywood's 25-year-deep colour-finishing bench is led by senior colorists trained on the Jackson and Cameron campuses, with reciprocal ICA / Colorist Society Global standing.

Here is the short of it. Productions covering taonga, pounamu, kahu huruhuru, or marae interiors run cultural-advisor sign-off on skin-tone and material reproduction in joint work with iwi appointees, with tikanga-compliant grading notes documented for archive. Our colorists hold ACC universal accident cover, Park Road and Department of Post both operate under WorkSafe NZ standards, and Privacy Act 2020 governs all rushes and pre-release master handling.
