Auckland-side capacity is anchored by Auckland Film Studios, Kumeu Film Studios, and Lemac New Zealand, with Filmworx Auckland carrying specialty rigging hardware.

Here is how this works in practice. Standard packages include Matthews and Mathew's C-stands, combo stands, baby/junior plates, sandbags, 4x4 through 20x20 frames with silks/solids/griffolyn, Avenger and Manfrotto specialty grip, plus full speed-rail and Cardellini ranges. For Mt. Doom-scale aerial heritage work we deploy Aerocrane and Akela arm packages alongside Russian Arm cross-border from Vision Research and Sigma Cine in Sydney — three-hour Trans-Tasman flight, ATA carnet processed through Auckland or Wellington Customs.

Here is the short of it. For DOC-permitted shoots into Aoraki/Mt. Cook, Fiordland, Tongariro, or Mackenzie Country UNESCO Dark Sky Reserve we adapt grip plans to cut ground impact — boardwalk-friendly riggers, low-pressure tyres on grip trucks, and Pelican-cased parts to handle Fiordland's 7m+ annual rainfall and the South Island winter dawn frosts that can hit -10°C. Steadicam, Technocrane, Scorpio remote head, and gyro-stabilized vehicle rigs are ready from the Stone Street and Auckland Film Studios pools, with key grip teams who carry the LOTR/Hobbit/Rings of Power heritage of working in difficult-access terrain alongside DOC rangers and iwi liaison. When production scale exceeds the domestic pool — multi-unit superhero or franchise tentpoles — we set up cross-border supplements via Sigma Cine Sydney and ARRI Rental Sydney, freighting on Air New Zealand or Qantas under carnet on a 48-72 hour turnaround.
